What % of the final price should be pure profit?
Required Retail Price
Most ecommerce founders use a simple formula: COGS x 3 = Retail Price.
This is dangerous because it treats all costs as fixed. In reality, Shopify's payment gateway takes a percentage of your final retail price. The more you charge, the higher your fee. If you simply add up your costs and slap a flat percentage on top, the payment gateway fee will silently eat into your target profit.
To guarantee a specific net margin, we use an algebraic pricing formula that isolates the retail price (P):
P = (Fixed Costs) / (1 - Target Margin % - Gateway Fee %)This ensures that your final retail price is large enough to absorb the percentage-based Shopify fees without compromising the pure profit you want to take home.
Even perfect pricing won't save you if you're spending money on ads that don't convert. Track the true ROAS of every campaign using gometrify's advanced click tracking.
